The seventh yearly Cure Cancer Classic in Kingston was a big success, gathering thousands of dollars for cancer research projects.
The game involved students from the commerce and engineering programs at Queen’s University playing hockey. The commerce team won 7-3, but the real victory was in supporting cancer research on March 14.
Kate Sheedy, co-chair of the Cure Cancer Classic, expressed gratitude to everyone involved, including sponsors, donors, faculty, and community members, for their dedication and generosity. She stated, “Seeing the real impact of our collective efforts in the fight against cancer is very inspiring. Surpassing our record and surpassing the fundraising goal of $600,000 shows the community's unwavering commitment.”
The game itself raised $338,344, and the Canadian Cancer Society matched the funds, reaching a final total of $624,103 for the Canadian Cancer Trials Group (CCTG).
The game between the departments started in 2005, according to the release.
