Soldiers, along with vigilantes, have eliminated a terrorist leader who was pretending to be a police officer in Sokoto.
The terrorist was reportedly committing crimes while pretending to be a police officer in the state.
According to a statement on Thursday by the Director of Army Public Relations, Maj-General Onyema Nwachukwu, the individual was killed on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, during a sting operation.
They stated that the troops found an AK-47 rifle and a magazine with four live rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
The statement explained, “Nigerian Army troops, with the help of vigilantes, have eliminated a dangerous terrorist who has been pretending to be a police officer in Sokoto to commit serious crimes.
“The violent extremist, who was eliminated on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, often disguised himself to deceive and abduct unsuspecting victims. The sting operation was carried out based on credible intelligence, and the suspect was neutralized in a gun battle with the troops.
“The troops also discovered and destroyed a house used as a secret facility by insurgent leaders to store drugs and provide treatments to injured insurgents.
“In a separate anti-insurgency operation in Taraba State, troops neutralized another insurgent in Kutoko Village, in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State. The operation resulted in the recovery of an AK-47 Rifle and a magazine with four live rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
“These operations demonstrate the dedication of the Nigerian Army in fighting terrorism and insurgency to ensure the safety and security of the nation. We encourage the public to continue supporting the troops as we collectively combat the nation’s enemies.”
