The Ogun State Police Command's officers had a shootout with approximately eight gunmen who had abducted Tunde Osifowokan, the farm manager of Flourishing Poultry Farm, Idowa, in the Odogbolu Local Government area. They managed to kill five of the kidnappers.
According to reports, the masked gunmen arrived at the poultry farm on Monday, firing their weapons randomly, and then took Osifowokan, who happens to be the owner's younger brother, with them.
The state's Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, mentioned on Thursday that the police had been trailing the armed gang since the incident was reported.
Alamutu explained, “At approximately 4am on Thursday, our anti-kidnapping unit raided the kidnappers' hideout at Odogbolu forest along Sagamu-Benin Expressway.
“The kidnappers engaged the officers in a fierce gun battle, resulting in the neutralization of five out of about eight of them, while the remainder fled with gunshot wounds.
“Items found on the deceased kidnappers include a cash sum of N1,185,070 believed to be part of the ransom they had received.
“Additional items recovered consist of a sword, cellphones, suspected drugs, charms, empty AK47 rifle shells, and sticks”.
Alamutu also confirmed that the victim, Osifowokan, was rescued unharmed.
The bodies of the kidnappers were reportedly taken to a General Hospital morgue for examination.
The CP stated that the command is making increased efforts to apprehend all the fleeing suspects and cautioned that criminals challenging the resolve of the state police will face consequences.
