The family of the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad, wants to do another autopsy and toxicology test to find out how he died.
The head of the family’s legal team, Monisola Odumosu, said this in an exclusive chat with PUNCH Online on Thursday.
Odumosu said the family planned to file an application at the Lagos State High Court to start the process.
Dr. Richard Somiari, Director of Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre, told the Coroner’s court in Ikorodu that the autopsy results would be ready in three or four weeks.
However, Odumosu said Mohbad’s family thinks the government's test is too slow and has concerns about how the autopsy is done.
He said no expert from the family was there when the post-mortem was done.
He said, “We asked the Coroner’s court to let us do our own autopsy and toxicology test, but the magistrate said he didn’t have the power to approve it and told us to go to the High Court.
“We are preparing to go to the High Court to ask for permission to do our own autopsy and toxicology test because we feel the government is too slow.
“They said on a radio programme that it would take about 10 to 12 months to do it in the US, and that is too long considering they took a sample five months earlier.
“So why wait so long? Also, the family wants an informed expert to confirm if the autopsy was done properly.
Odumosu also said the family wants to make sure the toxicology test in the US matches what was taken from the body.
He also confirmed that the separate test will be in the US.
He said, “We also plan to do it in the United States. Another reason is that if someone is poisoned, the poison may disappear over time, so we want to test before that happens.”
Mohbad died on September 12 at 27, causing controversy on social media.
Mohbad used to be signed to Marlian Music owned by Naira Marley, but left in February 2022.
The Lagos State Police Command set up a 13-man special investigation team on September 18, 2023, to investigate the death.
His death led to the arrest of Naira Marley and Lagos socialite, Balogun Eletu, also known as Sam Larry, among others.
Mohbad’s body was exhumed on September 21, 2023, for an autopsy.
During their investigation, the police announced that they were looking for Primeboy on October 4, 2023. He then surrendered himself two days later.
In November 2023, Mohbad’s father made it clear that nobody should bury his son without his permission.
