The government of British Columbia is set to reveal new steps to safeguard against flooding and other severe weather occurrences.
The press conference is set to start at 9 a.m. Thursday and Global News will be streaming the event live in this article.
It has been over two years since the significant flooding in Fraser Valley, Merritt, and other areas caused by an atmospheric river.
Just last week, a B.C. MP urged Ottawa to allocate funds for disaster recovery expenses linked to those floods.
The federal government anticipates needing to pay nearly $3.4 billion for its portion of the disaster expenses from November 2021.
So far, only about 40 percent of that has been paid.
“Our communities need this funding now,” stated Brad Vis, the Conservative MP for the sprawling, crescent-shaped riding of Mission—Matsqui—Fraser Canyon.
