“American Sports Story” has cast J. Alex Brinson as Odin Lloyd, TheWrap has exclusively learned.
The upcoming anthology series, developed by Stu Zicherman and produced by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, Nina Jacobson, and Brad Simpson, will explore the life of former NFL player Aaron Hernandez. The first season will focus on his rise and fall, including the murder of his Patriots teammate Odin Lloyd, which led to his conviction for first-degree murder and other charges. Hernandez was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole and was later found dead in his cell in 2017.
Brinson, known for his role in CBS and OWN’s legal drama “All Rise” as well as Netflix’s sci-fi series “Travelers,” will have a guest starring role in one episode of “Gladiator: American Sports Story.” Originally signed for three episodes, his role was expanded due to his impressive performance.
The actor is represented by Buchwald, Luber Roklin Entertainment, Goodman, Genow, Schenkman & Christopher.
In addition to Brinson, the cast of “American Sports Story” will include Josh Andrés Rivera as Aaron Hernandez, along with other stars like Jaylen Barron, Jake Cannavale, Catfish Jean, Tony Yazbeck, Lindsay Mendez, and Patrick Schwarzenegger.
“American Sports Story” is the fourth series under Murphy and FX’s “American Story” brand, following “American Horror Story,” “American Crime Story,” and “American Horror Stories.” The first season is based on the Boston Globe and Wondery podcast “Gladiator: Aaron Hernandez and Football Inc.”
Stu Zicherman, known for his work on “The Americans,” “The Affair,” and “The Shrink Next Door,” will write the first season. The series is produced by a team including Murphy, Falchuk, Jacobson, and Simpson.
