People in Quebec will have the opportunity to show their respect to Brian Mulroney in his home province as the commemorations for the former prime minister move to Montreal.
Mulroney’s coffin will be on display at St. Patrick’s Basilica today and Friday before Saturday’s state funeral.
Mulroney, who served as prime minister for nine years from 1984 to 1993, passed away on Feb. 29 at the age of 84.
He was born in Baie-Comeau, Que., and his Progressive Conservatives would later win the majority of the province’s seats in the 1984 and 1988 elections.
The former prime minister’s coffin departed from Ottawa on Wednesday after two days of lying in state, which included visits from Canada’s prime minister, political dignitaries, and members of the public.
A state funeral is scheduled for Saturday at the Notre-Dame Basilica, featuring speeches from Mulroney’s daughter Caroline, Jean Charest, and Wayne Gretzky.
