Manitoba's government plans to finance the construction of a new personal care home in an underserved area.
Premier Wab Kinew and health, seniors, and long-term care minister Uzoma Asagwara revealed that Lac du Bonnet will be the site of the new facility, with funding included in the upcoming provincial budget.
Kinew stated that a 95-bed care home will replace the current 30-bed facility, chosen due to high demand in the area.
Kinew emphasized the importance of caring for Manitoba's seniors, acknowledging their contributions and expressing the need to provide for them.
Kinew pointed out the long wait for the personal care home and assured that it will now be built to support seniors in staying close to their community and family.
The estimated total cost of the project, covering construction, design, equipment, and other expenses, is $66.4 million, with an anticipated completion date of 2027.
