Investigators for violent crimes say a man has been officially charged with the crime of second-degree murder involving the death of a woman at a residence in the UBC Endowment Lands.
Campus police were summoned to the residence on Shortcut Road in the Lelem Village area just before midnight on March 13. They discovered a deceased woman.
At that time, law enforcement reported that they took a man and a woman into custody at the location.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) announced on Thursday that charges had been authorized against Yang ‘Christopher’ Liang, 35, for the killing.
IHIT spokesperson Corp. Esther Tupper stated in a press release, “Because the individuals were acquainted, investigators suspect this may have been a heartbreaking case of intimate partner violence.”
Authorities have not given an update on the status of the woman detained at the scene.
Investigators for violent crimes are asking anyone with details to reach out to IHIT at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or via email at [email protected].
