Authorities in Winnipeg have accused a man and a woman of causing the death of their three-month-old daughter with illegal drugs.
In February 2022, emergency services were called to a residence where they found the baby unresponsive.
She was taken to the hospital and passed away several days later.
The police's child abuse unit then launched an investigation.
Examinations and drug tests revealed that Layla Mattern Muise died from being exposed to fentanyl and methamphetamine.
Police say the infant's parents, 39-year-old Christopher Joseph Mattern and 40-year-old Alison Kimberly Muise, have been charged with neglecting to provide the necessities of life.
