Police in Vernon, British Columbia, thought they were about to catch some suspected shoplifters, but they found something bigger.
At about 2:50 p.m. on Monday, there was a report of a theft in the 5000 block of Anderson Way in Vernon.
When officers arrived, they found a man and a woman loading items into a pickup truck in the parking lot after leaving a store without paying.
The police stopped the truck from leaving, and then arrested the man and woman.
The RCMP said, "Police checks confirmed the truck was recently reported stolen from the Kamloops area."
A 29-year-old man from Vernon was given a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition under the Motor Vehicle Act after he refused to provide a breath sample into a roadside screening device.
He was also charged with theft and possession of stolen property, and was released after an initial court appearance.
The woman was later released from custody without charges.
