Tobi Amusan, the impressive Nigerian hurdler, won the women's 100m hurdles at the African Games in Ghana on Wednesday with a time of 12.89 seconds.
Amusan faced a false-start scare at the beginning of the race, which could have resulted in her disqualification.
Despite this, the officials chose to show leniency and gave her a yellow card instead.
This victory marks her third consecutive championship at the African Games.
Amusan defeated Sidonie Fiadanantsoa of Madagascar, who finished second with a time of 13.19 seconds.
Another Nigerian athlete, Faith Osamuyi, narrowly missed out on a podium finish, coming in 4th with a time of 13.77 seconds.
Amusan currently holds the world record in the 100m hurdles, achieving a remarkable time of 12.12 seconds.
She accomplished this during the semi-final of the women's 100m hurdles in Eugene, Oregon, in 2022.
She has achieved titles and records in the 100m hurdles at both the Commonwealth and African levels.
Amusan became the first Nigerian to be a world champion and to hold a world record in athletics.
At the 2022 World Championships, she secured the gold medal in the 100m hurdles and set the world record of 12.12 seconds (+0.9m/s) in the semi-final.
She continued her remarkable performance with a time of 12.06 seconds (+2.5m/s) in the final.
In 2018 and 2022, she consecutively won titles at the Commonwealth and African levels in the 100m hurdles and is now a three-time champion at the African Games.
