Bola Tinubu, the president, has sent a letter to the Senate asking them to think about a new law that would change the pay, extra money, and official perks of judges.
The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, read out the president's request in a letter during the plenary on Wednesday.
The president's letter is about a bill called "Judicial office holders, salaries and allowances, etc, bill 2024."
Tinubu explained in the letter that the bill, if approved, would create a new system for how judges are paid to improve their well-being.
The president believes the bill will help improve the welfare and freedom of the Nigerian justice system.
He shared, "The judicial office holders, salaries, and allowances, etc, bill 2024 aims to set salaries, extra money, and perks for judges to end the long period of no pay raise and to match current economic conditions.
"The bill, which sets up a new system for how judges are paid, will also make sure their well-being and freedom improve significantly.
The president asked the lawmakers to think about and approve the bill quickly.
He also said, "I hope the judicial office holders, salaries and allowances, etc, bill 2024 will be carefully and quickly considered and approved by the Senate.
