A crash involving many vehicles south of High River, Alta., has closed the northbound lanes of the highway. Highway 2 RCMP reported the closure near the accident site.
The police released a news statement about the crash just before 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
The RCMP stated that there are no serious injuries reported, but a horse trailer was involved in the crash and some horses have escaped and are currently being gathered.
Traffic is being redirected through Highway 540.
Police did not mention the cause of the crash, but the High River area was under a snowfall warning. There was a snowfall warning in effect for the High River area on Wednesday. On Wednesday, Environment and Climate Change Canada had issued a snowfall warning in the region, expecting 10 to 30 centimetres of snow to fall by Friday.
The weather agency predicted 10 to 30 centimetres of snow by Friday in some areas.
The Alberta RCMP advised the public to slow down and drive according to road conditions when the roads are not in ideal condition.
The RCMP will provide an update once the northbound lanes of Highway 2 are reopened.
High River is situated approximately 60 kilometres south of downtown Calgary.
