Authorities in Nova Scotia are seeking details about the killing of an 18-year-old man who passed away in hospital four days after being shot.
RCMP and Halifax Regional Police (HRP) reacted to a report of a shooting on Downey Road in North Preston around 4:30 p.m. on March 14.
Dieago Downey, the victim, was brought to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries on March 18. The Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service has confirmed his death as a homicide.
Sgt. Jason Withrow of the RCMP/HRP Integrated Criminal Investigation Division unit urged witnesses or those with information about the incident to come forward in a statement.
“We’re dealing with the loss of a young man due to a senseless act of violence … your readiness to speak out could help identify those accountable for Mr. Downey’s death.”
Along with information, authorities are seeking video footage from the area around the time of the shooting. Investigators also want to talk to anyone familiar with Downey’s movements before the 4:23 p.m. 911 call.
