“New Amsterdam” may have finished after its fifth season in 2023, but that doesn’t mean the stories from the hospital are over. Series creator David Schulner is working on a new series about Dr. Max Goodwin’s daughter Luna for NBC, the network announced on Tuesday.
The new show takes place 30 years after the end of the original series. The description says, “Luna Goodwin takes over as Medical Director of New Amsterdam Hospital, three decades after the events of the first series.”
The emotional two-part “New Amsterdam” ending was in January 2023, possibly setting the stage for the sequel. According to the ending, the spinoff series is expected to explore how the medical field will benefit from artificial intelligence in the future.
The ending also introduced a new character to the series, a new medical director (played by Molly Griggs) who was revealed to be Luna Goodwin. In classic Goodwin style, Luna was seen giving a speech that ended with her father’s famous question, “How can I help?” So far, both Griggs and star Ryan Eggold are not part of the project.
