A bag with body parts was found near a stream in the Alama community, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, on Wednesday.
Someone who saw it happen said the body that was cut into pieces belonged to a man.
A person living in the Alama community, John Badungs, told The PUNCH in Jos on Wednesday that the bag containing a dismembered body was found by street cleaners in the morning.
Badungs stated that the cleaners’ alarm attracted community residents to the area.
Badungs, who was shocked by the event, said, “I have never seen anything like this before. This morning, my neighbor told me that a bag with a human body inside was discovered near a stream close to the Kabong Satellite market.
“When we hurried to the location, we confirmed that it was true. The white sack containing the body was tied and left on the ground, but you could see the human leg and other parts when you approached the bag.
“It was really disturbing, but nobody could identify the victim or explain what happened to him or the people who killed him in such a terrible way.”
It was reported that police officers who arrived in the area later removed the body bag.
The spokesperson for the state police command, Alabo Alfred, verified the situation when contacted by our correspondent, but mentioned that an investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident was ongoing.
Alfred said, “We cannot provide any information concerning the body discovered today in the Alama community because we have started an investigation. When we are finished, we can tell you what happened.”
