Law enforcement in West Hazleton and Hazleton City each accused a 19-year-old man of selling illegal drugs and engaging in a chase, respectively.
Daniel Allegretto Jr. was the focus of a drug probe by West Hazleton police and the Luzerne County Drug Task Force for supposedly selling fentanyl and methamphetamine in the area, according to police.
Allegretto was apprehended by Hazleton police after he nearly hit a police car at West 7th and McKinley streets and led them on a high-speed pursuit until he had to stop due to traffic on Friday, police said.
Following Allegretto’s arrest, West Hazleton police searched a residence on East Green Street, West Hazleton, where they found a large quantity of fentanyl, methamphetamine, packaging materials, digital scales and about $2,800 cash, according to court records.
Police stated the fentanyl was equivalent to 2,000 individual doses and the methamphetamine to 500 doses.
Allegretto was charged by West Hazleton police with two counts of possessing controlled substances with intent to sell, and Hazleton police charged him with evading or trying to escape from police and seven traffic violations.
Allegretto was released Tuesday after paying a total bail of $140,000.
