A court in Abuja on Wednesday rejected a request to halt the attempt to remove Edo State Deputy Governor, Phillip Shaibu, by the state House of Assembly.
The House of Assembly began impeachment proceedings against Shaibu on March 5, 2024, for allegedly leaking government secrets.
Shaibu filed a motion seeking to stop the state House of Assembly from taking any action to remove him, but the court refused to grant the request.
However, Justice James Omotosho, in his ruling on March 13, refused to grant the application.
During the proceedings on Wednesday, Shaibu's lawyer requested for a status quo order to be maintained until a further hearing.
But Justice Omotosho declined the request.
He mentioned that the governor of Edo State and the Edo State House of Assembly had not been properly notified about the legal action.
The judge allowed the deputy governor to serve the court process on the Edo State Governor and the state House of Assembly by alternative means.
Justice Omotosho ordered that the court process be displayed at the entrance of the Edo State Government House and the gate of the state House of Assembly Complex in Benin.
The judge also directed that all court papers be served on parties in the matter with the use of a registered courier company.
He subsequently adjourned the matter till April 15 for a hearing.
