The police in Vernon, B.C. said they were going to a break-in and found the suspect sleeping while on the job.
On Tuesday at about 8:30 a.m., a business on Waddington Drive in Vernon reported to the police that it had been broken into overnight.
The RCMP said, 'Staff arrived at the business in the morning and realized that someone had broken in during the night and had searched through tools and other items.'
When police got there, they found the person still inside the building, 'not trying to escape, but fast asleep on a storage shelf in the back of the business,' the RCMP said.
The sleeping suspect was woken up and taken into custody without any trouble.
Constable Chris Terleski said, 'The effort of breaking in and all the stress of the crime must have really tired him out.'
Terleski added, 'Taking things from display cabinets and organizing his loot made him so tired that he decided to take a nap before continuing, but he overslept.'
Instead of running away, a 46-year-old man appeared in court on Tuesday. He was kept in custody and will appear in court again on Wednesday.
