A Yoruba group of traditional rulers known as the Yoruba Obas Forum, on Monday, expressed their sympathy to the government of Oyo State and the people of Ibadan for the passing of Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Olalekan Balogun.
Oba Balogun became the ruler on March 11, 2022, and passed away at the age of 81 last Thursday. He was buried the next day at his family home in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.
In a condolence message signed by the National President of the forum, the Molokun of Atijere, Oba Samuel Adeoye, the YOF described the late Olubadan as an extraordinary traditional ruler whose reign brought about “maintenance of peace and stability in Ibadanland and within Oyo State Traditional Council in general.”
The group referred to the late Olubadan as a forward-thinking traditional ruler, and stated that the passing of Oba Balogun was a significant loss to ancient Ibadan and the whole Yorubaland.
The forum said, “The late Olubadan’s contributions to the socio-economic and cultural development of the region are immeasurable, and his legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
“The Yoruba Obas Forum prayed for the peaceful rest of the late Olubadan's soul and for the Almighty Allah to grant his family and the entire Ibadanland the strength to cope with the irreparable loss.”
