The Vancouver police have announced that additional officers will be keeping watch in and around Stanley Park. This is in response to a reported attack that happened on Monday morning..
Law enforcement stated that a woman was reportedly assaulted by a stranger while on the Lees Trail, just north of Lost Lagoon in the park.
Sgt. Steve Addison from the Vancouver police mentioned that a very serious sexual assault took place in Stanley Park.
Authorities are still trying to locate a man in his twenties who is approximately five-feet-seven-inches tall. He was wearing a dark toque and a zip-up jacket with a checkered pattern on the front.
Addison acknowledged that this situation is very unsettling for people.
He also described the incident as a sexually motivated attack by a stranger that occurred in a busy area during the day, which is extremely concerning.
Furthermore, Addison stated that officers are not only searching for evidence and the suspect, but they are also aiming to reassure the community and provide extra comfort for those affected by the reported attack.
On Monday, more than 20 officers flooded the area, patrolling in cars, on foot with dogs, and on horseback.
Additionally, they believe the suspect is no longer in the park.
Addison stated that efforts are now focused on identifying and locating the suspect for a timely arrest.
He emphasized that the investigation is very serious and will take time as they work to gather evidence, analyze it, and identify the perpetrator in collaboration with the victim.
