David Chase, the creator of “The Sopranos,” is moving into the horror genre by directing a yet-to-be-named horror movie for New Line Cinema. He will also write and produce the film with Terence Winter, who was a writer and executive producer alongside Chase on the acclaimed HBO series.
The storyline of the movie is being kept under wraps, but it will serve as the first collaboration between Chase and Winter since the conclusion of “The Sopranos” in 2007. Chase will produce the film under his Riverain Pictures banner, alongside Nicole Lambert, a producer on the “Sopranos” prequel film “The Many Saints of Newark.” Terence Winter will executive produce through his Cold Front Productions, as will Rachel Winter through her Tangerine Pictures banner.
Apart from “Sopranos,” Winter gained recognition for his screenplay for Martin Scorsese’s “The Wolf of Wall Street,” which earned an Oscar nomination, and for creating the successful HBO series “Boardwalk Empire.” He recently co-wrote the screenplay for “Bob Marley: One Love,” which has made $169 million at the global box office.
Chase is under the representation of UTA and Gendler Kelly & Cunningham; Winter is represented by LBI Entertainment, CAA, and Jackoway Austen. The agreement was initially reported by Deadline.
