An inmate at the State Correctional Institution at Dallas in Jackson Township, who was serving a sentence of up to 20 years for child rape, passed away shortly after arriving at the facility.
Carlos Corredor, 42, was discovered unconscious in his cell on Tuesday morning, according to Jasen Bohinski, the acting superintendent of SCI-Dallas, in a press release.
Prison staff administered emergency measures until Corredor was taken to Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, where he was declared deceased at 6:29 a.m., according to the press release.
Corredor was serving a sentence ranging from eight to 20 years for the rape of a child in Philadelphia County. He had arrived at SCI Dallas on Feb. 29.
The Pennsylvania State Police have been informed, and the Luzerne County Coroner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death.
