Quebec is now the final province to reach a preliminary agreement with the federal government regarding healthcare funding.
The office of Premier François Legault stated that the suggested addition of $900 million in yearly healthcare funding does not come with any requirements.
Legault had opposed the conditions that the federal government wanted to impose in exchange for the transfers.
The premier’s office insists that healthcare is a provincial responsibility and that Quebec will have the freedom to determine how it uses the new funds.
The funding is part of a plan introduced by the federal government just over a year ago to allocate an extra $196 billion to the provinces and territories for healthcare over the course of 10 years.
In order to receive the funds designated for 2023-2024, Quebec must sign the agreement before the end of this month.
