Michael Cohen, who used to be Donald Trump’s personal lawyer, stated on Monday that if Trump can't find the money to pay a $454 million judgment in his New York civil fraud case, it could put national security at risk if the money comes from a country like Russia or Qatar.
As the Washington Post reported earlier on Monday that Trump’s current legal team has been unsuccessful in finding 30 or more people willing to guarantee the money.
Cohen expressed concern about the source of the money, suggesting that if it comes from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, or Russia, it would mean a potential presidential candidate owes a foreign entity, which would jeopardize national security. He emphasized that the situation is very serious.
Although facing a separate trial in Florida for allegedly breaking the Espionage Act and mishandling classified documents, Trump, as the presumed GOP presidential nominee, will still receive security briefings from U.S. intelligence agencies. NBC News was reported earlier this month.
Cohen also stated that this situation puts national security at risk and makes Donald Trump the most dangerous threat to the country’s security and democracy.
Michael Steele, the host, speculated that Trump might be giving away state secrets to foreign powers in order to pay for his legal expenses, making him a potential risk.
Cohen pointed out that Trump doesn’t care where the money comes from as long as he receives it, even if it endangers national security. Cohen claimed that Trump has already shown sensitive documents to individuals without proper clearance.
“I will tell you that making Trump president was the absolute worst idea that I ever had. Bar none,” the lawyer said.
