A former North Vancouver elementary school teacher caught with child pornography has been given a permanent ban from teaching.
Details of the offense and the ban were disclosed in a decision from the Teacher Regulation Branch posted on Tuesday.
As per the decision, the police found Graham Christopher Bowering with the illegal videos, photos, and writing on Feb. 28, 2021, following a tip from an internet service provider that led to a search of his home.
However, Bowering did not notify the school about the search and continued teaching until March 12, when the spring break began. He was arrested three days later.
Bowering admitted guilt to possessing child pornography in February 2022 and was given a 10-month conditional sentence last year, followed by two years of probation.
The North Vancouver School District terminated Bowering's employment in February 2022 after a nearly year-long absence.
He is now permanently banned from obtaining a teaching certificate in B.C.
As part of his probation, he is prohibited from being alone with anyone under 16 and has been added to the National Sex Offender Registry.
