Dallas sophomore Molly Walsh and Holy Redeemer sophomore Bella Boylan were chosen as the most valuable players in their divisions by the girls basketball coaches of the Wyoming Valley Conference.
Walsh received the award in Division 1, and Boylan earned the same honor in Division 2. The MVPs are always chosen from the team that won the division.
Pittston Area junior Daniella Ranieli was picked as the Division 1 Player of the Year. Lake-Lehman junior Ella Wilson and Nanticoke Area senior Claire Aufiero were named the Division 2 Co-Players of the Year.
Walsh, a sophomore, was the top scorer in Division 1, averaging 18.6 points, and was second in free-throw percentage, making 78.8% of her shots from the foul line. Ranieli was second in scoring with an average of 18.3 and led the division in free-throw percentage, making 82.9% of her free throws. She also led the entire WVC with 60 3-pointers.
Boylan averaged 8.3 points, but contributed significantly in areas not reflected in the statistics. She was an aggressive defender and rebounder, as well as a skilled ballhandler.
Wilson had the highest average in scoring in Division 2 with 20.9 points and led in free-throw percentage by making 79.5%. Aufiero ranked third in scoring with an average of 17.1 and fifth in free-throw shooting, making 72.4%.
The Division 1 first team also included Dallas senior Elizabeth Viglone, Crestwood sophomore Keira Dougherty, Hazleton Area junior Sophia Shults and freshman Kaitlyn Bindas, as well as Wyoming Valley West senior Mackenzie Perluke.
The Division 2 first team also featured Holy Redeemer juniors Megan Albrecht and Brooke Kroptavich, Lake-Lehman senior Brenna Hunt, Nanticoke Area sophomore Kate Reed, and Wyoming Seminary freshman Ella Stambaugh.
The Division 1 second team selections were Berwick senior Gabby Starr, Crestwood freshman Jackie Gallagher, Dallas sophomore Mia DelGaudio, Hazleton Area sophomore Alexis Reimold, and Wilkes-Barre Area senior Emma Krawczeniuk.
The Division 2 second team picks were Holy Redeemer sophomore McKenzie Chimock, MMI Prep senior Bria Kringe, Nanticoke Area junior Caitlyn Majiros and sophomore Nevaeh Baran, as well as Wyoming Seminary junior Clare Griffin.
Vince Bucciarelli of Dallas was named the Division 1 Coach of the Year, while John Jezorwski of Holy Redeemer earned the same title for Division 2.
