Breweries in Guelph and around Wellington County are working to assist in creating a more varied industry.
The breweries are giving $2,841 to Link Up Beer to aid in fostering diversity in the beer industry for students of colour.
Tiffany Davey, one of the co-founders of Link Up, mentioned in a news release on Monday that promoting diversity has always been the organization’s aim.
Davey said, “It has always been the vision of the Link Up organization to guide BIPOC individuals into important roles within breweries, whether in brewing, leadership, or ownership.”
The money will be utilized to assist Black, Indigenous, and people of colour students in receiving their certifications. The non-profit provides financial aid and assistance to students of colour in obtaining their certifications to help them progress in their journey, as well as improve their career prospects in the beer industry.
Brad McInerney, marketing director of Wellington Brewery, expressed gratitude for the efforts of Link Up.
McInerney stated, “We are pleased to be able to support them in making the beer industry a more diverse and open place for people of colour.”
Guelph.Beer is made up of several breweries, including Sleeman, Wellington, and Royal City Brewing.
The Guelph.Beer Bus has been gathering donations over the past two years to aid students of colour.
Additionally, the Brewers Supply Group contributed $1,000 to Link Up through the Rahr Gives’ Gives initiative.
