The Minister of Sports Development, John Enoh, has commended the Daniel Igali-led Nigerian Wrestling Federation for the outstanding performances of Nigeria’s wrestlers at the African Senior Wrestling Championship in Alexandria, Egypt. The PUNCH reports.
The wrestlers controlled the championship, winning many medals to maintain their impressive form from the African Games in Accra, Ghana.
At the African Games, Team Nigeria won all six women’s events gold medals, and the men secured three silver and two bronze medals. In Egypt, they have now earned four gold and one silver under coach Purity Akuh’s guidance.
Senator Enoh expressed deep admiration for the federation's leadership, as well as the exceptional commitment of the athletes and officials.

Olympic silver medalist, Blessing Oborududu, continued her impressive performance by winning gold in Alexandria, beating Egypt’s Osman Badran 12-2 in the 68kg freestyle category.
Odunayo Adekuoroye achieved her ninth gold at the African Championship in the 57kg freestyle category by defeating Egypt’s Chaimaa Aouissi by pinfall. In the 53kg category, Christianah Ogunsanya easily defeated Tunisia’s Chahrazed Ayachi 10-0 to win gold.
Esther Kolawole secured her second Senior Africa Wrestling Championships title with an 11-0 victory over Egypt’s Farah Hussein. In the 76kg final, Hannah Reuben lost 12-2 to Egypt’s Zainab Sghair, earning a silver medal.
