Nigeria’s Isaac Danladi, a left-handed batter, says that the Nigerian team will improve in the men's cricket event of the African Games. They will play against Zimbabwe in their last group game at the Achimota Cricket Oval on Wednesday, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
The Yellow Greens must win against the 13th-ranked nation in the world or hope for a favorable result in the last group game between Namibia and Tanzania to advance to the last four.
After losing to Tanzania on Sunday, Steve Tikolo’s team bounced back with a three-wicket win against Namibia on Monday, upsetting the test nation with their second defeat of the tournament.
Danladi, who took two wickets, was awarded Player of The Match in the win over Namibia on Monday. The 21-year-old is confident about the team’s chances of progressing.
“I have great love and respect for my teammates. We have just started and we are not going home yet,” Danladi said after the win over Namibia.
Nigeria and Zimbabwe last met at the 2024 T20i World Cup qualifiers, where the Zimbabweans won by six wickets.
Nigeria is currently third in Group B with two points, the same as Tanzania, who are in second place with a better net run rate. Zimbabwe leads the group with four points and is almost certain to reach the semifinals.
