The New York Jets could be inventive in finding more support for their wide receiver team.
NFL analyst Cam Marino stated that he has heard rumors connecting the Jets to a trade for a wide receiver, with Treylon Burks being a potential option.
Burks was the 18th overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft, acquired by the Tennessee Titans through a trade involving AJ Brown and the Philadelphia Eagles. exchanging AJ Brown with the Philadelphia Eagles in a trade.
Potential acquisition of Burks by the Jets would be uncertain.
Burks, who comes from Arkansas, has not lived up to expectations in his first two NFL seasons.
Burks has only had 49 catches for 665 yards and one touchdown. Burks is currently low in the Titans' wide receiver hierarchy due to recent additions.
Tennessee agreed to a four-year contract worth $92 million with Calvin Ridley this season. The previous season, they signed veteran DeAndre Hopkins to a two-year contract worth $26 million. they inked Burks has two years remaining on his $14.3 million rookie deal, making him a bargain for any team. He will receive $2 million this year and $2.6 million next year.
Not only is his contract inexpensive, but the trade price would likely be very low, too. Burks is owed has not delivered
at the NFL level and has struggled with injuries, playing in only 22 out of 34 possible games. The Jets would only be interested if their offensive coaches believe they can unlock the potential of this 23-year-old talent. The Jets were interested in Burks prior to the 2022 NFL Draft.
The Jets used one of their
top 30 visits
on Burks during the pre-draft process in 2022. Although he has not yet made an impact in the NFL, he excelled in college. Burks played three seasons at Arkansas and accumulated over
2,621 scrimmage yards, primarily as a receiver but also as a versatile runner.
At the NFL Combine, he was recorded being 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighing 225 pounds.
In a mock draft before the draft, Connor Rogers from Bleacher Report had Burks as the first wide receiver chosen. Rogers described Burks as an exceptional receiver with enormous hands, excellent catching abilities, and the versatility to play different roles on the field. Rogers had high praise for Burks and believed that others would also appreciate his skills after seeing him at the NFL Combine.
Rogers emphasized Burks' speed and versatility, both with and without the ball.
If the Jets were as interested in Burks before the draft as it appears, this could be a rare opportunity to acquire a talented young player at a discounted price. If the gamble pays off, the Jets will have gained a promising talent for their offense. If not, they can easily move on without significant loss.
The New York Jets are possibly going to get Tennessee Titans wide receiver Treylon Burks, according to NFL analyst Cam Marino.
“You’re talking about legitimate vertical deep speed. He is a menace with the ball in his hands [and] he is a menace without the ball in his hands,” Rogers said.
If the Jets were as high on him pre-draft as it seems they were, this could be a unique opportunity to add a talented youngster at a discount. If the dart throw works, the Jets just stole a young piece of clay for their offense. However if it doesn’t work then they can simply move on without it costing them much of anything.
