A theatre performance is currently showcased at Manitoba Theatre for Young People (MTYP) and may be familiar to parents, but kids will enjoy it too.
According to Greg Klassen from MTYP, the show Tetris — which was popular in the Netherlands — is based on the classic block-stacking video game, but its interactive nature will attract audience members of all ages.
“It’s based on the well-known video game of my generation, but maybe not as well-known to the younger generation,” Klassen noted.
“It’s about movement and how people fit together in a society and need each other. Our artistic director felt that kids who had gone through a pandemic needed to re-learn the idea of working together and connecting, and even of touching.
“It’s a remarkable piece. You have to see it to believe it.”
Tetris, performed by a group of Dutch actors in primary colors, aims to get the audience involved and moving along with the action on stage.
“They’re showcasing a physical language that they’ve learned together for the entire audience,” Klassen explained.
“It’s a lot of fun. Everyone, regardless of age, will enjoy it.”
Tetris runs until Sunday at MTYP, which is located at The Forks.
