A person was rescued from a vehicle and taken to the hospital with severe, life-threatening injuries after a two-vehicle collision Tuesday morning in London, Ont., according to the police.
The collision on Dundas Street just south of the London International Airport also caused a significant diesel fuel leak, as explained by Const. Matt Dawson.
“During the collision, the fuel tank on the truck — not a transport truck, but a truck with a flat deck on the back carrying items within a rail system — was punctured, leading to the diesel spill,” said Dawson.
Emergency services were called to Dundas Street and Kostis Avenue at around 6:20 a.m., with one person taken to the hospital with severe, life-threatening injuries, according to London police report.
The fire department announced just before 7 a.m. that its teams had “completed extrication” and were collaborating with the Hazmat Team “to address a significant diesel fuel spill.” They also mentioned that the Ministry of the Environment would be informed.
London police have completely shut down Dundas Street between Nissouri Road and Crumlin Sideroad, and the closures are expected to last “several hours,” possibly until lunchtime, as Dawson added.
