During a funeral service on Sunday, he shared his thoughts and mentioned needing private time to grieve his family's loss.
He stated that he won't be giving any interviews at the moment and asked the media to respect his need for privacy and time to grieve.
Wickramasinghe expressed gratitude towards Ottawa first responders, police, victim services, and hospitals for their quick response following the tragedy.
He also thanked the Buddhist Congress of Canada, the Ottawa Sri Lankan community, and the people of Sri Lanka for their support during this incredibly difficult time.
Over a hundred mourners attended the funeral on Sunday, offering tearful prayers and calls for unity and compassion for the slain Sri Lankan family. The Wickramasinghe family members, who were Sri Lankan newcomers to Canada, along with the youngest born in the country, were the victims of one of the worst mass killings in Ottawa's history. The youngest victim was born in Canada, and the family was described as newcomers from Sri Lanka. Wickramasinghe also mentioned the sixth victim as a dear friend.
A 19-year-old Sri Lankan man was arrested the evening of the attack and charged with six counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder.
Police identified Febrio De-Zoysa as an international student who had been living with the family at the time of the incident.
Ewan Lyttle, De-Zoysa's lawyer, stated that his client is in protective custody, and his family is clearly very upset about the allegations.
