Manitoba RCMP are trying to find out what happened after a 44-year-old woman's body was found in a wooded area close to Emerson.
Authorities were informed on Saturday afternoon about a woman missing from the RM of Stuartburn, who was last seen leaving her home just before 5 a.m. Her vehicle was later found in a ditch about a kilometre away, but she was not there.
With the assistance of a search and rescue team, police dog, and drone systems, RCMP from the Emerson detachment combed the area and discovered her deceased in a wooded area.
Police mentioned they’re waiting for the results of an autopsy, but believe the woman might have wandered from her vehicle after it went into the ditch, and exposure to the elements may have caused her death.
RCMP and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner are still investigating.
