The leaders of the All Progressives Congress in the Federal Capital Territory expressed their frustration on Monday and accused the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, of favoring his Peoples Democratic Party supporters over their members.
During a press conference in Abuja, the FCT party leaders urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene and prevent the former Rivers State governor from causing harm to their political structure in the nation’s capital.
Wike has faced strong criticism for his appointment choices since taking office.
His appointments, including individuals with PDP backgrounds, have been a source of discontent for APC members, particularly those from FCT.
At the press conference, Abdulwahab Ekekhide, a party leader in FCT, criticized the minister’s appointments as biased and disrespectful towards FCT party members who contributed to the president’s electoral victory.
He emphasized that Wike's disregard for the party and its leadership is harming the APC's political standing in FCT.
Ekekhide also highlighted the issue of outsiders being appointed, who then leave the FCT during general elections.
He called on the president to intervene and warned that the APC's performance in future elections could be at risk if the situation doesn't improve.
Isaac David, the APC Youth Leader of FCT, shared similar concerns about party members being overlooked for appointments.
David, who is from Abuja, also conveyed a warning that if Wike continues to deny party members their rights, they may withdraw their support for the president.
David also highlighted the issue of the minister and PDP appointees not having their voter registration in FCT, indicating possible consequences in the 2027 elections.
“We will stop supporting the President. We want to know how he intends to win the FCT in 2027,” he said.
