People who drive on Calgary’s 4th Avenue Flyover should anticipate delays in the next few weeks, which will continue until the fall of next year.
The flyover is undergoing a $12.5 million rehabilitation to replace and upgrade guardrails on the bridge deck.
From the week of April 2, there will be single-lane closures for site surveys outside of morning and afternoon rush hours.
The flyover will be completely closed from 9 p.m. on April 5 until 5 a.m. on April 8 to set up construction.
After that, one lane will reopen for traffic to allow the rehabilitation work to proceed.
During the Calgary Stampede, both lanes will open, then go back to one lane until the work is completed, estimated to be in the fall of 2025.
The Mission Bridge along 4th Street Southwest in central Calgary will also undergo major rehabilitation work, with closure expected for about six months starting in the fall of 2024.
The critical repair work on that bridge is expected to last until the end of 2025.
Those using Memorial Drive can expect work on the Sunnyside Flood Barrier to continue this summer and into 2025.
The construction for Phase 1 of the Green Line LRT, between Shepard and Eau Claire, is set to commence this year.
Preparations for the new event centre north of the Scotiabank Saddledome will begin later this year.
