The Calgary Flames have signed Sam Morton, a college free agent, to a one-year contract.
The Flames announced on Monday that the contract for the 2024-25 season is worth US$950,000.
At 24 years old, Sam Morton from Lafayette, Colo., will be joining the Calgary Wranglers, the Flames' American Hockey League affiliate, on an amateur tryout contract for the remaining of this season.
Morton earned the title of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) player of the year by scoring 24 goals and 10 assists in 37 games for Minnesota State.
His nine power-play goals were among the top in NCAA Division 1 men’s hockey, tying for eighth place.
As a six-foot, 185-pound centre, Morton gathered a total of 47 goals and 42 assists in 144 games throughout his career at Minnesota State.
