The Confederation Africain de Football has expressed sadness about the unexpected death of Mohamed El Mokhtar, the goalkeeper of the Mauritanian national team.
The statement on the CAF website said that the 21-year-old goalkeeper tragically lost his life due to a collision during training that caused head trauma.
Dr. Patrice Motsepe, the association president, prayed for the soul of the country’s U21 goalkeeper.
Dr. Patrice Motsepe, the CAF President, has offered sincere condolences to Mohamed El Mokhtar’s family, club, and the Mauritanian Football Federation.
The statement further read, “May the soul of Mohamed El Mokhtar rest in peace.”
According to reports, the goalkeeper slipped during training with his club, AS Douanes, and slipped into a coma for a week before passing away.
The news led to the FFRIM canceling the Mauritanian Cup final between Douanes and Nouadhibou, which was scheduled for the same day, as reported by KingFut.
A statement from the FFRIM expressed mourning for the death of national team goalkeeper Mohamed El-Mokhtar, who passed away on a Saturday morning in Nouakchott.
In a statement on their Facebook page, the Mauritanian Football Federation expressed deep sorrow and praised Al-Mokhtar’s patriotism, talent, and dedication.
Despite his young age, Al-Mokhtar’s exceptional skills helped him progress from the junior national team to the senior national team.
“His colleagues remember him for his honesty, professionalism, and admirable character,” the statement read.
