The Scripture Union Nigeria is urging the Federal Government, lawmakers at all levels, and Christian organizations to resist the push to legalize lesbianism and bi-sexualism.
The chairman of the union, Wilfred Onu, made this statement at a press conference in the union's headquarters in Samonda, Ibadan, Oyo State capital.
Onu, accompanied by the union's General Director, Uwem Udoh, stated that the legislation poses a serious threat to the global population.
He expressed concern about the increasing acceptance of these non-biblical ideas, which goes against the clear instructions in the Holy Bible, and disregards the legal implications of the Same-Sex Marriage Prohibition Act, 2014, and other laws that criminalize such behavior in several states of Nigeria.
He emphasized the alarming promotion of this ideology by some religious and political leaders, especially in the Western world, and the need to speak up against this immoral and debased movement that is undermining human and societal decency, values, and public morality.
The union, grounded in Biblical principles, reaffirmed its commitment to promoting traditional Christian values and principles, while asserting that the basis of the LGBTQ+ ideology is unbiblical, immoral, and appears to be built on falsehoods and a fondness for inhumane living.
The union called on the entire Christian community to strongly support and advocate for the message of God’s love and redemption for all, and completely reject the LGBTQ+ ideology that contradicts the teachings and principles of the Holy Bible.
It also urged all Christians and genuine advocates for humanity to defend the sanctity of family life and a respectable society, unequivocally rejecting the harmful agenda of those individuals, organizations, and agencies that are promoting these ideologies.
Moreover, as a union with the divine mandate to serve children, youths, and families, it is committed to protecting, defending, and promoting their innocence from harmful influences that deviate from Biblical teachings. The union advocates for the preservation of traditional family values and marriage as defined in the Scriptures.
