A Point-of-Sale operator in Lagos State prevented a customer named Linda Ihebinike from attempting to make a N90,000 transaction using fake naira notes on Friday.
The information was shared by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, on his social media handle on Sunday.
Hundeyin stated that the PoS operator alerted others when Ihebinike tried to use fake N1,000 notes to make a purchase totaling N90,000.
Hundeyin wrote, “A vigilant POS operator raised the alarm after a customer, Linda Ihebinike, attempted carrying out a transaction with fake N1,000 notes to the tune of N90,000. Investigation is ongoing.”
The PUNCH previously reported that two individuals, James Akomolafe and Olaoluwa Ogbere, were charged in Yaba Magistrate Court for allegedly stealing from multiple Point-of-Sale operators in Lagos. PoS operators under pretence.
The defendants went to Mile 12 market, Ketu under the pretence of checking their account balance at a POS stand.
They distracted the attention of the operator, swapped the machines with their own, and left for an unknown location, stealing the sum of N662,000 from the account.
