Team Nigeria has advanced one position on the medal chart after securing two gold medals to regain their second position at the ongoing African Games in Ghana, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
Nigeria had been in second place throughout the event, but dropped to third place on the medal chart on Thursday as South Africa took the second spot.
Nigeria finished Day 10 of the event in third place with 76 medals (27 gold, 21 silver, and 28 bronze), surpassing South Africa who held third place with 25 gold, 29 silver, and 38 bronze medals.
Even though Nigeria is ahead of South Africa on the medal chart with more gold medals, they have fewer total medals compared to South Africa, who have won a total of 92 medals.
While both countries are competing fiercely, they are considerably far behind Egypt, which leads with 154 medals, including 90 gold, 35 silver, and 29 bronze medals.
Despite not adding to their medal collection, Algeria remained in fourth place with 22 gold, 30 silver, and 37 bronze medals, totaling 89 medals.
Similarly, Tunisia maintained their fifth place with 10 gold, 20 silver, and 29 bronze medals.
Meanwhile, the host country, Ghana, continues to move up the medal chart after earning their ninth gold of the event, advancing from eighth place to sixth place to replace Mauritius, who now hold the seventh spot.
Eritrea, Madagascar, Morocco, and Cameroon complete the top 10.
