Former Philadelphia 76ers wing Marcus Morris Sr. has found a new team for now. After the Spurs released the former Sixer, Morris joined the Cleveland Cavaliers according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania through his X account.
Charania explained why Morris interested the Cavaliers and how his addition could be important to them.
“Cleveland is adding experienced depth to the frontcourt late in the regular season. Morris agreed to a contract buyout with the Spurs before the March 1 deadline and is eligible for the playoffs with the No. 3 seed Cavaliers,” Charania wrote via his X account.
The Sixers gained Morris from the Clippers in the James Harden trade. They then traded Morris in a three-way deal that involved acquiring Buddy Hield.
In the 37 games he’s played, Morris has averaged 6.7 points and 2.9 rebounds with a 43.9% field goal percentage and 40% three-point percentage for the 2023-24 season. Morris may have to find a new team if he doesn’t perform well for Cleveland.
Patrick Beverley Called Marcus Morris Signing
Former Sixer Patrick Beverley continues to get inside information before NBA Insiders. The day before Charania confirmed the Cavaliers would sign Morris, Beverley announced the transaction via his podcast’s X account.
Beverley has been sharing inside details about multiple moves since the NBA Trade Deadline. This has often involved him or his former teammates. He mentioned his own trade to the Bucks and then that Danilo Gallinari would either join him in Milwaukee or return to the Clippers before Gallianri chose the former. However, he hasn’t been accurate with all of his predictions.
He previously stated that Morris was originally considering joining the Timberwolves, which didn't happen.
Beverley shares a connection with these moves because he played with Gallinari and Morris when they were teammates on the Clippers. Beverley stays in touch with some of his former teammates even when they are no longer playing together.
In Morris’ case, he and Beverley played together for two different teams. First, they were teammates on the Clippers from 2020 to 2021. They reunited with the Sixers after Beverley signed in Philadelphia, and the Sixers acquired Morris in 2023.
Now, Beverley has reconnected with Gallinari on the Bucks after being traded there and the latter signing with the team.
Ex-Sixer ‘Weighing His Options’
In February, Patrick Beverley provided inside information on another former Sixer: Danuel House. After the Sixers traded House to the Pistons, who then released him, Beverley reported through his podcast’s X account that House was considering his options. One of his options was the Atlanta Hawks.
Since then, House has remained a free agent, but that could change before the playoffs start. Beverley has been incorrect before, just like with Morris back in February. House may decide to sit out the season, or another team may pick him up aside from the Hawks.
In 34 games this season, House has averaged 4.2 points and 1.7 rebounds with a 44.8% field goal percentage and 30% three-point percentage. He is a playoff-experienced player who could offer wing depth to any team in need.
