Los Angeles Lakers coach Darvin Ham said that Anthony Davis left the game with vision problems after getting hit in the eye.
“He got elbowed in the left eye and couldn't see properly. His vision was blurry,” Ham informed reporters after the Lakers’ 128-121 loss to the Golden State Warriors on Saturday, March 16, at Crypto.com Arena. He added, “We're waiting for an update on his condition.”
Davis played most of the first quarter, scoring 8 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 block as an All-Star.
Anthony Davis’ Absence Takes Toll on Lakers
The Lakers dominated the paint (14-4) in the first quarter but struggled after Davis' injury.
Golden State capitalized on Davis’ absence, winning the rebounding battle 45-39 and scoring 62-54 inside the paint.
His co-captain LeBron James expressed regret over his early exit.
“We had prepared for days and losing a key player in one quarter is tough. We tried to step up, but we really missed AD,” James told reporters after Davis' early departure.
Despite a 40-point effort by James, a crucial turnover contributed to the Lakers' downfall.
“We're not used to playing without [Davis],” Lakers guard D’Angelo Russell told reporters. “He’s played almost every game this year, right? So it’s unfamiliar for us. Jaxson played well. Others stepped up. But it’s a tough team, well-coached. It won't be easy.”
LeBron James Disagrees with Refs
James disputed crew chief David Guthrie’s ruling on a play that could have narrowed the Warriors' lead to 124-120 with 1:50 remaining. 3-pointer “Guthrie stated: “James stepped out of bounds as he started to shoot,”
Guthrie explained in the pool report . “Yes, it can be reviewed at that time. According to Rule 13, Section II(f)(3), the replay center official only examines the player’s feet position just before the shot. This rule applies in other replay scenarios as well.”Instead of the Lakers closing the gap, the Warriors extended their lead to 126-117 after a lengthy delay due to video replay and shot clock issues.
“I don’t believe I went out of bounds,” James stated to reporters. “I knew how much space I had and I shoot on my toes. It's tough for me to land with my heel. I might land after the shot. But that’s how it is.”
