The Nigeria Customs Service in Kebbi State has reopened the Kamba land border, following President Bola Tinubu's directive to reopen the border with Niger Republic. The reopening was announced by the Controller, Iheanacho Ojike, emphasizing Kamba's importance in revenue generation for Kebbi State.
When reopening the border, Ojike mentioned that Kamba is an important border for generating revenue in Kebbi State.
The statement, signed by the command's spokesperson, SP Mohammed Saliu, and released to the press on Sunday, contained this information.
The objective of the border reopening is to encourage legitimate trade that positively impacts nation building, and not to permit the importation of prohibited items that could harm the economy or compromise national security.
The customs officers are prepared to facilitate legitimate trade and comply with the law to make trade across the Kamba border easier, as long as stakeholders import items permitted by customs laws, declare them correctly, and pay appropriate duties to the Federal Government.
Ojike also stated that exporting food grains from the country is still prohibited due to food scarcity.
In response, Mallam Fana, the district community head, praised the efforts of the Federal Government and highlighted the renewed hope for people engaged in cross-border businesses following the border reopening.
