The Anambra State Police Command has started searching for the gunmen who attacked the office of the Anambra State Vigilante Service in Amichi, Nnewi South Local Government Area .
In a press release on Sunday, the state police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that the Commissioner of Police, Aderemi Adeoye, has ordered an investigation into the attack, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the gang responsible for the attack.
The PUNCH had reported that unidentified hoodlums invaded the office of the Anambra State AVG in Amichi, Nnewi South LGA and set one of the buildings on fire.
The culprits, who were in large numbers, also set on fire a vigilante member and a vehicle parked in front of the office. They burned the man and the vehicle together.
Ikenga, in response through the statement, said the commissioner has assured residents that every effort will be made to apprehend the gunmen who attacked and burned the vigilante office.
The statement stated, “The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Aderemi Adeoye, has assured the peace loving people of the state that every effort will be made to apprehend the gunmen who attacked and burned the vigilante office in Amichi, Nnewi South LGA.
“The CP expressed condolences to the town and people for the loss of a vigilante member during the attack. He revealed that efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the gang responsible for the attack.
“He commended vigilante groups across the state for their dedication to the protection of the public and assured that the police would do everything possible to protect them.”
According to him, the CP has also instructed police tactical teams and special forces across the state to promptly respond to all distress calls from vigilante groups when they come under attack.
“He prayed for the peaceful rest of the vigilante member who lost his life in the attack and assured that his death will not be in vain,” the statement added.
