Acting The manager of the new Acropolis Resort in Anambra State, Obioma Ogakwu, has stated that the new golf facility, which will be launched on Saturday, April 6 as part of the resort, will speed up golf development in the South East region.
Commenting on the growing interest from golfers, the manager observed that the project has sparked new interest in the game in the region.
“We have always known that apart from the Enugu, Ebonyi, and Aba golf clubs as the major golf facilities, the Acropolis golf project commissioning will increase the options that golfers in the regions have for recreation,” she said.
“We aim to go beyond the recreational value of this. We plan for Acropolis to become a major hub for the game and also serve as a crucial developmental center for the golfing talents in the South East.”
She mentioned that the design of the golf course allows for future modifications which will enable it to become a championship course, hence the collaboration with the Professional Golfers Association of Nigeria.
Mike Ubi, a professional golfer who advises on the project, also confirms that the current nine-hole layout of par 36 already positions the course as an excellent facility that golfers would enjoy returning to.
“I believe the launch of Acropolis Golf Course will provide a new experience. I have been involved in the recent phase of this project and have made significant adjustments that make playing here very engaging. I am also aware of plans, for which we have made provisions, and I can confidently say that Acropolis will be a major factor for golf development here.”
The top 15 professional golfers in the country have been invited to participate in the launch, which will feature about 80 golfers in action from Friday.
