OPP report that they are still receiving tips for their investigation into the death of a 14-year-old girl from Sarnia, Ontario. The investigation has been ongoing for 50 years.
Police state that Saturday marks the 50th anniversary of the death of Karen Caughlin, who disappeared in the early hours of Saturday, March 16, 1974. Her body was found the next morning on Plowing Match Road, between Churchill Line and Lasalle Line in Lambton County.
Initially, the police thought her death was a homicide, but in 2017, new information indicated that Caughlin’s injuries were consistent with being hit by a vehicle.
Police now suspect that her body might have been relocated from the spot where she was hit to where it was discovered.
The OPP has created a video about the case and published it on YouTube.
Authorities are asking to hear from anyone who may have mentioned attending or hosting a social gathering in Petrolia after visiting the Rose Gardens roller skating rink the day before Karen was last seen alive.
OPP also wants to receive information about a car accident in the Petrolia area, or any damage sustained by a car around that time.
OPP states that the investigation is still ongoing and a $50,000 reward for information is still available.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Lambton County OPP at 1-519-882-1011 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
