The Ondo State Government has given the go-ahead to employ 2,000 teachers into the state civil service as part of its efforts to revamp the education sector.
The state governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, revealed this on Friday at the launch of late Rosa Jane Pelly legacy project at Fiwasaye Girls’ Grammar School, Akure.
Aiyedatiwa, who was represented by his Deputy, Mr. Olayide Adelami, stated that his administration would continue to prioritize education.
“I am pleased to say that the state government’s substantial investment in the education sector is producing positive outcomes as our students are excelling in all areas.
“It's a well-known fact that Ondo State is now a significant player in the education sector, both nationally and internationally.
“We have recently endorsed the hiring of 2,000 teachers for our primary and secondary schools.
“This is to bring fresh talent into our schools.
“Recently, the state government sanctioned the N550 million registration of students in state-owned secondary schools for the 2024 WAEC examination,” he said.
He praised the dedication of Miss Jane Pelly, who served as the first principal of Fiwasaye Girls’ Grammar School from 1960 to 1973, appealing to well-meaning Nigerians to support the state in reaching its educational objectives.
In her opening remarks, the Principal of Fiwasaye Girls’ Grammar School Akure, Mrs Temitope Ojoge, praised the state government and the donor for their contributions to the development of education in the state.
She mentioned that the building not only represents progress and growth but also embodies the spirit of resilience and determination that characterizes the school community.
